Chloë Smith (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist based in the UK. Her work spans choreography, live performance, moving image and installation. She's always unsure what form her next work will take, allowing fluidity and inviting a questioning of disciplines.
Her practice is firmly rooted in the body and its connection to landscape, place and other people. She is interested in our relationships to place, to the communities around us and between the personal and the political. Chloë is currently based in her hometown of Berwick-upon-Tweed, right on the English Scottish border, and she's interested in exploring what it means to make work in and for a place she knows intimately.
Chloë's work has been shown in Limerick City Gallery of Art, Gateshead International Festival of Theatre, SPILL Festival of Performance, Platform Glasgow and in outdoor spaces across the UK.
"Whilst in Luleå I will be exploring similarities and differences between two Northern landscapes; my hometown Berwick-upon-Tweed, and Norrbotten. I am always intrigued by the smaller details that make up a place: the sights, smells and sounds that together characterise the particularities of a specific location, often these things are overlooked: not mentioned in the guidebooks or signposted on tourist routes, yet without them our experience of a place will be very different. I will spend a month immersing myself in the landscape of Norrbotten and meeting with people, and I'll use this time to inform a new piece of work that I will present at Råneå Biennale."
